The University of Arizona College of Nursing offers two post-master’s certificate nurse practitioner specialties: Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Each specialty is a 4-semester, part-time opportunity for the working RN. Program Overview
Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate
Graduates of the FNP Post Master’s Certificate specialty are prepared as primary care providers for families at a beginning level of practice, users of research, and beginning researchers. Upon completion of the program students will be eligible to take a FNP national board certifying examination. To qualify for entry into the FNP Post Master’s Certificate program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, which must be in nursing. The course of study includes extensive clinical time. The FNP Specialty Certificate Program requires a minimum of 28 credits and 810 clinical hours.
Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate
Graduates of the ACNP specialty are prepared as providers of care for acutely ill adults with multiple, complex problems at a beginning level of practice, users of research and beginning researchers. Upon completion of the program students will be eligible to take an adult ACNP national board certifying examination. To qualify for entry into the ACNP Post Master’s Certificate program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, which must be in nursing and RN experience in an acute care setting. The course of study includes extensive clinical time. A Clinical Skill Intensive (CSI) program scheduled on campus just prior to the start of the second fall semester is required. The ACNP Specialty Certificate Program requires a minimum of 28 credits and 810 clinical hours.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility: To qualify for entry into an ACNP or FNP Post Master’s Certificate program, applicants must have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, which must be in nursing. Applicants to the ACNP specialty must have RN experience in an acute care setting. Fall admission only. Apply Now!
- BSN cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- MS in Nursing cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above
- Submit online College of Nursing Application
- Submit online Graduate College Certificate Application
- Official transcripts of all post-secondary academic work
- Computer literacy
Graduate Certificate Application Priority Deadline for Fall Admission: March 1st with notification around mid-April.
International Applicant additional requirements:
- Submit the UA Graduate College online application by international deadline date
- Complete the TOEFL with a minimum score of 213
- Submit CGFNS documentation for nursing degrees earned outside of the U.S.A.
Enrollment Requirements
Once admitted to a Graduate Certificate program you must submit an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card. ARS § 15-1881 is a condition of final acceptance. Complete information about the statue can be found at the following web sites:
Financial Assistance
Graduate Certificate students are generally not eligible to receive federal financial aid. College of Nursing scholarship opportunities are limited for Graduate Certificate students.
