Health beliefs and health practices of culturally diverse populations: implications for primary care
Clinical Expertise:

  • Nurse-managed centers, interprofessional team-based care, mobile health, working with culturally diverse patients
Research & Scholarship:

My research interests include cultural health beliefs and practices and their influence on overall health practices and health outcomes; this includes using Kleinman’s model to ascertain the meaning of illness to the patient, and to study use of home remedies to see if they can be incorporated into a safe, integrative health plan. Expertise is primarily qualitative. Educational research interests include use of standardized patients and other simulated settings for teaching advanced practice nurses and interdisciplinary teaching and practice—outcomes for student learners and for patients.
