The Biological Laboratory consists of several individual laboratories and workstations, which in combination accommodate numerous faculty and graduate students who are conducting individual or collaborative research projects. No animal work is done in this laboratory.
The Biological Laboratory includes:
- Two biochemistry laboratories
- A laboratory equipped for cell culture
- A histology laboratory
- A molecular biology laboratory provides designated space for the genomics research
- A large shared space containing multi-user equipment and a large table and chairs
Access
Access to the Biological Laboratory can be obtained through the Office of Nursing Research. Submit the completed Request for Access form via e-mail to Alice Pasvogel (Office of Nursing Research) at pasvogel@nursing.arizona.edu. Evidence of an approved protocol and required training are needed for access.
Training Requirements
All personnel requesting access to the Biological Laboratory are required to complete General Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Training and the Basic Biohazard Protection Course and maintain current CITI Training. There are no exceptions. Hard copy of the certificates as well as evidence of refresher is required for access to the laboratory.
If the researcher is using blood or body fluids or other potentially infectious material (human or animal) in their research, Bloodborne Pathogen/Infection Control Training must be completed. Hard copy of the certificate as well as evidence of yearly re-certification is required for access to the laboratory.
If the researcher is shipping materials by air, training in Shipping Hazardous Material by Air and/or Shipping Genetically Modified Material by Air is required. Hard copy of the certificate is required for access to the laboratory.
If training is not kept up to date and certificates are not submitted to the Office of Nursing Research, access to the Laboratory will be revoked until the information is received in the Office of Nursing Research.
