Progression into the BSN Professional Program

BSN-Direct Admit and Pre-Nursing majors who are finishing their final Nursing Pre-Professional courses will go through the Advanced Standing Process to determine their eligibility to progress to the Professional Phase of the BSN curriculum. The Advanced Standing process will take place each September and February.

To be eligible for Advanced Standing status, students must meet the Continuing Eligibility Criteria:

  • Take only UA courses and courses approved as direct equivalency, including high school coursework, by the Transfer & Articulation department.
  • Earn a minimum of 3.00 cumulative GPA of all college-level coursework.
  • Complete each Nursing Pre-Professional Course with a minimum B grade.
  • Abide by the UA Course Repeat and Grade Replacement Opportunity policy guidelines.
  • Become eligible for Advanced Standing within five semesters (Fall and Spring) or submit an exception request form if more than five semesters are needed. Exception requests will be reviewed by committee. Approval is not guaranteed. Student whose exception request is approved and do not meet the eligibility requirements by the extended deadline will be required to change majors.

The Continuing Eligibility Criteria will be evaluated during the Advanced Standing Conference. Students will be able to schedule their Advanced Standing Conference using the Academic Advising Trellis Scheduling Calendar.  New appointments for Advanced Standing Conferences will be posted each Monday for the following week during the Advanced Standing season. Note that standard drop-in advising availability will not be sufficient to meet the requirement for an Advanced Standing Conference.

During this specialized Academic Advising appointment in September or February, students' eligibility to progress will be determined.  If it is determined the student does not meet the continuing eligibility requirements, their academic advisor will work with them to determine if eligibility can be achieved or transfer the student to a different major.

Students deemed eligible will receive notification the following month of their BSN placement and start term. Eligible students will need to complete any in progress Pre-Professional coursework with a B or higher grade to retain their placement.
