Dean's Strategic Advisory Council

The College of Nursing (CON) Dean’s Strategic Advisory Council, established in the fall of 2021, aims to guide efforts in preparing graduates for practice. This council meets biannually to discuss the essential skills required for new nurses, ensuring that the college’s curriculum aligns with real-world demands. Collaboration with community hospitals and healthcare leaders has been crucial in refining the competency-based learning model based on the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Essentials. This model emphasizes clearly defined learning outcomes and measurable competencies, guiding students from foundational to advanced skills. It takes a holistic approach, integrating experience, knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and skills. The CON Dean’s Strategic Advisory Council consists of 28 members from both Tucson and Phoenix, all contributing to this vital mission.
