Modern SIM: How to Keep the Real in Simulation

Mr. Coy J. Collins is an advanced practice provider in medical simulation for the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) at the University of Arizona. Mr. Collins holds an MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner studies from Northern Arizona University, along with extensive graduate work in public health, biostatistics, and geographical information systems (GIS). He is currently pursuing his doctorate degree at Arizona State University with anticipated degree in May 2023.

Mr. Collins’ clinical experience includes trauma & emergency services, wilderness medicine, adult critical care, neonatal/pediatric intensive care, aeromedical transport, and pre-hospital emergency medical services in both military and professional fire service settings. Additionally, he holds active roles championing street medicine and pediatric forensic care within the Tucson community. Within the simulation arena, Mr. Collins is an accomplished facilitator and educator matching his vast range of clinical experience. His research interests lie in interprofessional education and simulation-based learning, especially in mobile integrated healthcare (MIH) settings.

Simulation in healthcare education has grown exponentially over the last two decades. In his presentation “Modern SIM: How to Keep the Real in Simulation”, Mr. Collins will explore the elements including modalities, benefits, and limitations of the simulation sciences. Inclusive perspectives that impact various consumers and recipients of simulated healthcare delivery, along with future trends in simulation sciences, will be addressed.
