Student Awards
Centennial Achievement Award
Adriana Warne
The Centennial Achievement Award is to recognize outstanding achievement and contributions by graduate students. Our own Adriana Warne is presented this prestigious award in recognition of her amazing DNP Project entitled Implementation of a Migrant Well-Child Health Toolkit for CAWC Healthcare Providers. Based on the principles of trauma-informed care, this 70-page toolkit has the potential to change the way care is delivered to migrant children in shelters across the U.S.-Mexico border region. Her work demonstrates the greatest strength of nursing – the ability to use critical thinking to put caring into action.
Mary Opal Wolanin Award
Rebecca Spear
Rebecca’s DNP Project Delirium Screening and Prevention in Older Adult Post-Acute Care Patients is an honor to Mary Opal Wolanin – fondly known as one of the grandmothers of gerontological nursing. Rebecca’s work resulted in a decrease of new-onset delirium during post-acute care stays – resulting in patients achieving maximum benefit from their post-acutre rehab and optimization of their function.
Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award
Veronica Place
Dr. Place’s extraordinary dissertation is an apt reflection of the quality of her work throughout her doctoral program. As a new nurse scientist, Dr. Place is leading the way for research on relational prayer, an understudied but very important human practice. Our scientific knowledge base will be notably enriched by her work on relational prayer for emergency medical provider health and wellness. Dr. Place is poised to make an uncommonly significant impact in these arenas and others, beginning with dissemination of the results of her extraordinary dissertation.
Outstanding DNP Project Award
Lizy Windsor
Lizy demonstrated her ability to provide potentially life-saving training to her project participants, and in a way that supported and protected their mental health. Her ability to interact professionally and effectively with stakeholders at the project site will prove valuable in her future career. Her successful implementation of this project will be a model for similar training in other practice sites, as the project results supported an increase in the knowledge, self-efficacy, and preparedness among participants in handling future active shooter incidents. With the tragic rise in these kinds of events nationally, this is a timely topic and powerful intervention that would be useful in a variety of clinical practice settings.
Excellence in Clinical Systems Leadership
Cathy Bridgeman
Cathy is dedicated to the program, her studies, and her professional development. She demonstrated excellent work with outstanding attention to detail. She supports her team with kindness, and her contributions are thoughtful and timely. Her hard work and dedication are evident, and she is a joy to work with.
Erin Turner
Erin is a star, her peers describe her as a great communicator and organizer. Erin has demonstrated and articulated the role of the nurse leader from the beginning. Working collaboratively with a team, Erin helped developed a winning health promotion project focused on smoking cessation and the young adult.
Pearl Parvin Coulter Award
Pankaj Vyas
Pankaj demonstrates the characteristics of an effective nurse leader with a high level of scholarship. The groups Pankaj’s collaborates with describe him as a strong leader. He is an effective, professional, and polite communicator. Pankaj is a high-performer while being respectful of everyone. He is an outstanding student, and will be pursuing his DNP in informatics at the University of Arizona.
Arizona Nurses Association Chapter Two Award
Olivia Duffett
Olivia demonstrates excellence in critical thinking and clinical excellence. She provided comprehensive plans of care for her patients, exhibiting detailed research and insight into their disease process but also an investment in their psychological care and wellbeing. Olivia also has a passion for holistic nursing care. This was evident in her commitment to developing psychosocial care interventions focused on the unique needs of high acuity patients and families in her written assignments as well as implementing these measures during direct patient care.
Julia Hubley Award for Clinical Excellence
Eric Page
Eric demonstrates excellent critical care thinking, knowledge base, and skills in his nursing practice. He is hard working and professional, and managed to work the night shift all while keeping up with the workload of a student.
Kristina Suarez
Kristina is a great support to her peers. She is always respective and helpful, and exudes a positive attitude.
Mary F. Jefferies Achievement Award
Zoe Rosin
Zoe is an excellence student in her clinical arena. She is hardworking, excellent critical care thinker, and passionate about her job. Zoe is planning to go back to school for her DNP in the future.
Gladys E. Sorenson Award for Academic Excellence
Jennifer Salgado
Jennifer is compassionate and always eager to learn. She is well-rounded, hard-working, and always willing to help.
Emily Turecek
Emily is hardworking, enthusiastic, compassionate, professional, and promotes fellowship in her nursing practice. She is always prepared while being enthusiastic about learning, and forms quick rapport with her nurses, patients, and families. Emily goes above and beyond to care for others, including her fellow students, and she is a joy to work with. Emily will be an excellent nurse and representative of the University of Arizona college of nursing.
Student Nurses at the University of Arizona Award
Shyann Chaudhry
Shyann received the SNUA Award due to her dedication, participation, and contribution to the Student Nurses at the University of Arizona throughout her four semesters in the College of Nursing. She was chosen by her peers due to her noticeable involvement and impact during her time in the club.
