The College of Nursing (CON) Dean’s Strategic Advisory Council, established in the fall of 2021, aims to guide efforts to ensure graduates are prepared for practice. This council, meeting bi-annually, engages in in-depth discussions on the essential skills needed for new nurses, helping to align the college’s curriculum with real-world demands. The council's collaboration with community hospitals and healthcare leaders has been instrumental in refining the competency-based learning model based on the Commission on College of Nursing Education (CCNE) Essentials. This model focuses on clearly defined learning outcomes and measurable competencies structured to take students from foundational to complex skills, emphasizing a holistic approach that integrates experience, knowledge, abilities, attitude, and skill. Currently, the CON Dean’s Strategic Advisory Council has 28 members contributing to this mission. (Two group photos are shown below; click on the far right of the photo to see the second image.)
