About
The Emmons – Dean’s Dissertation Research Award is provided by a generous donor and the Dean of the College of Nursing to assist PhD students in Nursing to complete formative work to complete their dissertation research. Funds for projects of up to $5,000 each may be requested.
Who is eligible to apply?
Any PhD student with:
- An approved dissertation proposal and an initiated IRB application
Letter of Intent
A letter of intent is required but not binding. The letter of intent is needed for the Office of Research and Scholarship to identify and arrange for appropriate reviewers.

Letter of Intent: October 1, 2024
Submission due date: November 1, 2024
Funding Decision and Summary Statement: December 6, 2024
Funding Start Date: January 15, 2025
Funding End Date: January 15, 2026
Letter of Intent Requirements
- Principal Investigator’s (PhD student’s) name
- Dissertation Title
- Brief description of the study (2-3 sentences)
- Names of all faculty advisors
Submit the Letter of Intent electronically by 5:00 PM, March 1, 2024 to the Office of Research and Scholarship (CON-ORS@arizona.edu). Attach as a PDF document.
FAQs
- Proposals will be reviewed by two reviewers (internal and/or external to the College of Nursing or the UArizona, depending on area of expertise required).
Other Requirements
- Copies of all publications resulting from the research should also be submitted to ORS.
- Acknowledge the College of Nursing Emmons – Dean’s Dissertation Award Program in any products/results from the research.
