The College of Nursing held its 2025 White Coat Ceremony for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Health Sciences Innovation Building (HSIB). The tradition, which began in 2015, marks the beginning of the clinical phase of the program and allows students to affirm their commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care as future advanced practice nurses.

A total of 90 students attended this year’s ceremony, which included remarks from Lindsay Bouchard, DNP, PMHNP-BC, RN, DNP Program Director, and recitation of the student oath of responsibility. The oath is a reiteration of the values students have learned and their commitment to applying their knowledge, experience, and skills to ensure optimal outcomes for their patients. When addressing the students at the ceremony, Dr. Bouchard said, "Today is a momentous occasion – a day that symbolizes not only your hard work and dedication but your deep commitment to the profession of nursing and the communities you will serve – It marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that represents a transformation in your roles as scholars, healthcare providers, and emerging leaders.”

Brian Ahn, PhD, Dean of the College of Nursing, said in his opening remarks to the 2025 clinical cohort during their Campus Clinical Immersion event: “As you begin this phase of your educational journey, you will contribute to addressing the significant national shortage of healthcare providers, leaders, and educators. DNP graduates are crucial in shaping the future of healthcare, improving practice environments, and influencing policy and education. Your efforts will profoundly impact the quality of care and the expansion of access to essential services.”
