Rooted in the rich history of midwifery, our mission is to educate the next generation of midwives, to improve access to care for all by supporting communities to achieve reproductive health equity.

The University of Arizona College of Nursing Midwifery Specialty acknowledges the generations of midwives who have come before us, especially the midwives of the Indigenous nations and communities of color. The midwifery specialty will uphold the belief that everyone is unique, has a right to reproductive healthcare, in which they can be actively engaged, by advocating for racial and social justice and equitable access for holistic care. Pregnancy and birth will be respected as normal physiologic processes, and each person has the right to be actively engaged in their health care decisions. The midwifery specialty will infuse the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) Hallmarks of Midwifery and the University of Arizona Core Values in its curriculum.

The University of Arizona College of Nursing Nurse-Midwifery program is preaccredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, 8403 Colesville Road, Suite 1550, Silver Spring, MD 20190, www.midwife.org/acme.

Eligibility:

To qualify for entry into a Certificate program, you must have a degree and active licensure as an advanced practice nurse (nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, clinical nurse specialist or certified nurse-midwife). The Certificate-NM program admits for a summer start only. 

• Advanced Practice Nursing degree (APRN)
• Last 60 units of Nursing GPA of 3.0 or above
• Unrestricted RN licensure within the U.S. AND current APRN certification (NP, CRNA, CNS, CNM)
• Advanced practice national certification in specialty area

International Applicants:

• Submit the UA Graduate College application by the international deadline date
• Submit a minimum TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 paper based (PB), 79 internet based (iBT) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) composite score of 7 (no subject area below a 6).
• Transcripts and Degrees: Submit CGFNS documentation for nursing degrees earned outside of the United States. 

Once admitted to a Graduate Certificate program you must submit an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card. ARS § 15-1881 is a condition of final acceptance. Complete information about the statute can be found at the following web sites:

Graduate certificate students are generally not eligible to receive federal financial aid. College of Nursing scholarship opportunities are limited for graduate certificate students.
