From a love of learning sparked in childhood to a lifetime devoted to caring for others, Nancy Groh’s journey embodies the heart of nursing. A 1964 College of Nursing graduate, Nancy, along with her husband, John, has turned gratitude for her education into lasting support for future nurses through the Nancy and John Groh Nursing Student Scholarship. Their story is a powerful reminder that even small acts of generosity can have an enduring impact.

Induction Day welcomed 210 new students into the College of Nursing as they began the final phase of their nursing education across BSN, BSN–Integrated Health, and MEPN programs in Tucson and Gilbert. The events celebrated students’ transition into professional nursing study, featuring remarks from college leaders who emphasized service, community, and shared purpose. Induction Day marked a unifying milestone, symbolizing the start of students’ journeys into the nursing profession.

Jessica Rainbow, PhD, RN, CNE, and her interdisciplinary research team are leading a $3.6 million NIH-funded project to test a nurse-driven intervention designed to transform organizational conditions in hospital settings. By integrating nursing science, systems engineering, and clinical research, Rainbow’s work demonstrates how nurse-led, evidence-based innovation can strengthen work environments, improve patient outcomes, and support a more resilient health care workforce.

During the January 2026 Campus Clinical Immersion, DNP students took a major step toward advanced practice through hands-on, faculty-led training and a meaningful white coat ceremony marking their transition to clinical care. Adler, PhD, APRN, and her nursing-led research team are testing an innovative, app-based music intervention designed to improve cancer pain management. By blending science, technology, and deep clinical insight, Adler’s work highlights how patient-centered, nursing-driven innovation could reduce reliance on opioids and improve quality of life for cancer survivors.

The MEPN Student Organization (MSO), led by Hannah Juarez and Allison Colvard, provides vital support, connection, and professional development for students navigating the intensity of the MEPN program. Through volunteer events, career panels, community-building activities, and wellness-focused initiatives, MSO helps students strengthen relationships and prepare for the transition into nursing practice. The organization plays a key role in creating a supportive environment that helps reduce stress, build confidence, and strengthen students’ readiness to transition into professional nursing practice.

The College of Nursing’s Rural Health Professions Program (RHPP) is expanding rapidly, with record participation, strong statewide partnerships, and renewed AHEC funding that strengthens rural clinical training, telehealth education, and overall program infrastructure. Led by director Christy Pacheco, DNP, FNP-BC, the RHPP prepares advanced practice nurses to serve rural and underserved communities through immersive clinical rotations, rural health coursework, and essential skills training. Continued investment is driving this momentum, ensuring the RHPP can keep building Arizona’s rural healthcare workforce and expanding its impact across the state.
