2025 DNP Campus Clinical Immersion Event

The College of Nursing held its 2025 White Coat Ceremony for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students on Friday, Jan. 17. This ceremony marks the beginning of the clinical phase of the program. A total of 90 students attended this year’s ceremony.

College of Nursing takes the helm in postdoctoral cancer prevention training program

Jan. 23, 2025

The College of Nursing and the U of A Cancer Center are announcing a change in leadership for the T32 Cancer Prevention and Control Training Program Addressing Health Disparities. Although this training program has existed for many years, this is the first time the College of Nursing has taken the lead. Terry Badger, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN, possesses the mentoring skills and leadership experience necessary to ensure the program’s success.

Elise Erickson, PhD, CNM, FACNM, is leading innovative research to transform maternal health, a critical area of concern for women and families around the globe. Her research focuses on unraveling the complex factors that influence pregnancy and birth outcomes. She manages three NIH grant research projects, each scheduled to run for approximately five years with an annual budget of around $1.2 million.

The College of Nursing, ranked #13 among public NIH-funded colleges, achieved $9 million in research expenditures in FY24, highlighting its critical role in advancing research and innovation for faculty and students at the University of Arizona. University officials project that research activity will exceed $1 billion in FY24, positioning U of A among an elite group of top research institutions, including Stanford, Duke, and Harvard Universities, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Universities of Florida, Michigan, and North Carolina.

DNP Flying Samaritans: A legacy of service and compassion

Native Nursing Student Kyra Johnson SOARs

Nov. 20, 2024

When Kyra Johnson enrolled in pre-nursing at the U of A last year, she was nervously excited about experiencing life outside the Navajo reservation in Crownpoint, N.M., where she’d spent her childhood. At the beginning of her sophomore year, she found the Native SOAR program, which provides culturally responsive academic and social support to Native students, who mentor younger students and are, in turn, mentored by graduate students, professionals, and community members.
