Talk Title: Preventing Cognitive Impairment in At-Risk Midlife and Older Adults: Developing and Testing Lifestyle Interventions

Summary: Dr. Halloway is committed to preserving the cardiovascular and brain health of older adults who are at risk for the devastating effects of dementia. Her research and scholarship specifically focuses on promoting the benefits of lifestyle physical activity and other health behaviors for cardiovascular and brain health. Dr. Halloway is currently testing two multidomain biobehavioral interventions to delay memory loss in at-risk older adult populations. This R01 trial study, funded by the NIH National Institute of Nursing Research, focuses on diverse older women with cardiovascular disease. Dr. Halloway has received 8 grants as PI totaling $2.5 million and 3 grants as co-I totaling $20 million. She has disseminated findings in 24 research-based publications, 27 presentations, and multiple policy, public advocacy, and health promotion publications in prominent media outlets, including Nursing Outlook, The Hill, Scientific American, and STAT News. Her research has been featured in news articles and podcasts with the estimated outreach of over 200 million readers/listeners.

BIO: Dr. Halloway received her BSN from Pacific Lutheran University in 2010 and PhD from Rush University in 2016. Between 2016 and 2018, she completed the first Kellogg Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Rush University College of Nursing. She joined the College of Nursing in the Department of Community, Systems, and Mental Health Nursing as an assistant professor in 2018. Her clinical experiences as a registered nurse focused on older adult health across settings, including critical care, home health, and community settings. Her dedication to nursing science was recently recognized by the Midwest Nursing Research Society New Investigator Award and she was named a Fellow of American Heart Association.
