Nursing Honor Society Beta Mu welcomes 51 new inductees
On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the College of Nursing proudly inducted 51 outstanding students into the Beta Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) during a virtual ceremony held via Zoom. This event celebrated academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to advancing the nursing profession. The inductees included seven doctoral students, 39 master’s students, and five bachelor’s students.
Founded in 1922 by six visionary nursing students, Sigma has grown into a global organization with over 100,000 active members across 600 chapters in more than 90 countries. Its membership includes clinical nurses, nurse educators, researchers, policymakers, and healthcare entrepreneurs, all united by a common mission to connect, empower, and develop nurse leaders who transform global healthcare.
Membership in the Beta Mu chapter is extended by invitation only. It recognizes baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, as well as nurse leaders with exceptional professional achievements. Undergraduate students must have completed at least half of their nursing curriculum and ranked in the top 35% of their class, while graduate students must have completed a quarter of their program with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
This year’s inductees join a global community that values scholarship, leadership, service, community, and professional development. Sigma nurses are recognized for their academic excellence and dedication to serving patients and communities, both locally and internationally. Through Sigma, members gain access to a wealth of resources, including continuing education, research funding, career development opportunities, and a strong international network of peers and mentors.
The induction ceremony featured remarks from Beta Mu members who congratulated the new members and encouraged them to embrace the opportunities and responsibilities that come with Sigma membership. As the latest generation of Sigma nurses, these 51 inductees represent the future of nursing — committed, compassionate, and capable of shaping the future of healthcare.
“The induction into Sigma is more than an honor; it recognizes these students' dedication and intellect for the nursing profession and compassion for those in need. We are immensely proud of our Beta Mu inductees at the College of Nursing,” said Brian Ahn, PhD, dean of the College of Nursing. “They are not only academic achievers but also emerging leaders who will shape the future of healthcare locally and nationally.”
This ceremony celebrated the inductees' hard work and accomplishments, while also marking the beginning of an exciting career journey ahead.
