Dr. Kyungeh An currently serves as the William and Berniece Castella Endowed Professor for Aging Studies and PhD Program Director at the School of Nursing and is a Professor at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. She has been developing her nursing practice, education, research, and leadership career for nearly four decades, with 23 years of experience in faculty roles. She has a strong track record of leadership in various cultures, academic environments, and health science centers. Dr. An has consistently dedicated herself to cultivating strong leadership skills throughout her career.

Dr. An has been PhD Program Director of Nursing Science since 2020. In that role she prioritized three issues and established three primary goals: Establishing a PhD Program Committee; enhance students’ learning outcomes and scholarship productivity; and establish scholarships that would support qualified students pursuing their PhDs without needing full-time employment. She has been successful in each of these issues and goals. Establishing an inaugural standing committee for the PhD Program, exploring different dissertation options, and she introduced travel awards for PhD students to support presentations and national and international conferences. These initiatives have yielded great success. And has facilitated development of community projects fostering collaboration between PhD and DNP programs.

Dr. An was inducted as a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). In her leadership roles she has always made a dedicated effort to support diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) and places great value on these principles and remains devoted to promoting anti-racism, health equity, and inclusivity within higher education.
