Meet Christine Platt, UArizona Nursing PhD student. A multi-talented scholar who was selected by the Western Institute of Nursing’s 2020 Carol A. Lindeman Award for New Research, Platt’s research focuses on families raising children with disabilities, particularly in the foster care system. 

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Assistant Professor Dr. Meghan Skiba, who joined the College’s Division of Biobehavioral Health Science, on March 7. With a Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences, a Master and PhD in Public Health, Dr. Skiba brings with her a rich academic background and a keen interest in integrative health that makes her a perfect complement to our Wildcat Nurse faculty.

Hot on the heels of its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program rising to number 23 on U.S. news & World Report’s inaugural Best BSN in Nursing programs list, two University of Arizona College of Nursing graduate programs received new rankings in the organization’s 2022 Best Graduate Schools list. 

Today we celebrate International Women's Day to honor the women visionaries, innovators, educators, advocates, and leaders creating change in the world. Women have been marginalized throughout history but have demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience in the fight for equity. This is inclusive of all people who identify as women/female/female-bodied and who are allies with women—as we strive for a world that is inclusive and just for all. 

With a passionate interest in holistic mental healthcare, Jennifer Montjoy soon found a dissertation topic that holds great potential for mental health healing: the use of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), specifically in the treatment of unremitting mental health conditions.

The Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR) recently released its rankings for Colleges of Nursing funded by the NIH in 2021. The UArizona College of Nursing rose in the organization’s rankings to 27 in 2021, up from 33 in 2020. 

For Nurse Anesthesia student Kitra Henker, becoming a Wildcat Nurse was almost preordained: one of her earliest photographs depicts her as a baby wearing a UArizona Wildcats onesie. Add to that the fact that both her parents are UArizona Nursing alumni and you get a full picture of the kind of passion and allegiance that draws students to the College of Nursing.

The University of Arizona College of Nursing, like the state of Arizona itself, has grown in leaps and bounds across the years, but 2022 represents a very special year in our history, because it marks our 65th anniversary.

James Gibson is finishing up his post-doctoral work, completing his clinical training and planning for the future. Despite the difficulties of the past two years, as he tackles the intensive final stretch of his studies, he is optimistic, driven and eager for new challenges.

The University of Arizona College of Nursing (UACON) Midwifery Specialty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program is scheduled for a preaccreditation site visit by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) Board of Review in April, 2022.
