The College of Nursing and the U of A Cancer Center are announcing a change in leadership for the T32 Cancer Prevention and Control Training Program Addressing Health Disparities. Although this training program has existed for many years, this is the first time the College of Nursing has taken the lead. Terry Badger, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN, possesses the mentoring skills and leadership experience necessary to ensure the program’s success.

Elise Erickson, PhD, CNM, FACNM, is leading innovative research to transform maternal health, a critical area of concern for women and families around the globe. Her research focuses on unraveling the complex factors that influence pregnancy and birth outcomes. She manages three NIH grant research projects, each scheduled to run for approximately five years with an annual budget of around $1.2 million.

Catherine Harpst, a PhD student in the College of Nursing, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Deborah E. Trautman Future Nurse Leader Scholarship by the Foundation for Academic Nursing, a branch of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

The University of Arizona College of Nursing honored its fall 2024 graduating class at Centennial Hall on Dec. 19. More than 250 Wildcat nurses celebrated the successful conclusion of their programs in front of family, friends and faculty.

Nestled among the hills of Baja California, El Rosario, Mexico's small village is filled with hope. Every month for three days, a remarkable transformation occurs when volunteers from the Tucson chapter of the Flying Samaritans and DNP students arrive in El Rosario, bringing medical, pharmacy, and dental supplies and a mission of healing, compassion, and cross-cultural connection.

The College of Nursing is proud to announce that Rina Fox, PhD, MPH, an assistant professor and member of the U of A Cancer Center, has been honored with the prestigious 40 Under 40 Award by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

On November 21, senior BSN nursing student Samantha Chai represented the College of Nursing at the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) Student Showcase Reception. The event brought together more than 30 undergraduate students from across the University of Arizona, each showcasing projects that exemplified their respective college's mission.

When Kyra Johnson enrolled in pre-nursing at the U of A last year, she was nervously excited about experiencing life outside the Navajo reservation in Crownpoint, N.M., where she’d spent her childhood. At the beginning of her sophomore year, she found the Native SOAR program, which provides culturally responsive academic and social support to Native students, who mentor younger students and are, in turn, mentored by graduate students, professionals, and community members.

The College of Nursing is pleased to announce that Timian Godfrey, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, associate clinical professor, has received a $360,000 three-year grant for her project titled “Adhering to a Culturally Responsive Framework: Integrating Kinship into a Multilevel Community-Based Intervention for American Indian Adults with Comorbid Type 2 Diabetes and Cancer.” The U of A Cancer Center funds this grant under the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention. This groundbreaking initiative is a collaboration among the U of A, Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the Arizona Tribal Nations.

Roveda exemplifies cross-disciplinary innovation, and her dedication has earned her this significant recognition. The Women of Impact Award is presented annually to honor faculty and staff who show exceptional commitment to the U of A’s mission, purpose, and values.

In the world of children's literature, an innovative new book series aims to inspire the next generation of nurses. The "Nurse Florence" book series, authored by Michael Dow, a U of A College of Nursing faculty member, introduces kids to health and science at a young age.
