U of A Nursing and NAU partner to foster health equity in Native American cancer prevention

The College of Nursing is pleased to announce that Timian Godfrey, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, associate clinical professor, has received a $360,000 three-year grant for her project titled “Adhering to a Culturally Responsive Framework: Integrating Kinship into a Multilevel Community-Based Intervention for American Indian Adults with Comorbid Type 2 Diabetes and Cancer.” The U of A Cancer Center funds this grant under the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention. This groundbreaking initiative is a collaboration among the U of A, Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the Arizona Tribal Nations.

Advancing health equity: Research targets osteoarthritis pain management in Hispanic population

Knee OA is the most common joint disease, affecting over 80% of people aged 55 and older. Research rarely focuses on ethnic differences in pain perception and underlying mechanisms. Lee's project is one of the first to investigate this area, promising to provide valuable insights into ethnic disparities in pain perception and treatment.

College of Nursing expands lifesaving asthma program to tribal nations and rural counties

Oct. 21, 2024

The SIFS program, initiated by Ashley Lowe, PhD, MSPH, U of A College of Nursing Assistant Professor, and Research Scientist as well as Research Scientist at U of A’s Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center, has been instrumental in addressing one of the most pressing health concerns for children — asthma. The program provides Arizona schools with a stock of albuterol sulfate inhalers, a lifesaving rescue medication for students experiencing respiratory distress.
